HOW DOES PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL WORK AT SAMA WELLNESS BRUSSELS?

Hair removal works through the emission of light and the absorption of that light  by a target (the hair). The light, which reaches 70 °C, destroys -only- the hair, so that over time it practically stops growing back. Inside the hair, it is the pigment (melanin) that captures the light and heats up. The technical difference between pulsed light and laser lies in the broader emission spectrum (several wavelengths instead of only one with a laser) of the light

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL SESSION AT SAMA WELLNESS BRUSSELS? DOES IT HURT?

As it is not considered a medical procedure, IPL (pulsed light) hair removal is generally performed in beauty centres. Before any session, make sure that you:

• Have let the hair in the area grow for about 2 to 3 weeks before the session; the Sama therapist will then shave the hair before flashing ( the thicker and darker the hair, the better the light detects it)

• Anticipate the warm, tingling sensation by applying an anaesthetic cream (prescribed by your doctor) on more sensitive areas such as the bikini line or the face.

• Have had your moles protected and wear protective anti-radiation glasses. (provided by the centre).

Once you are lying down in the treatment room, the session in which the professional applies the flash light to the areas being treated is very quick (between 5 and 45 minutes depending on the size of the area ) and causes VERY little pain (a slight warm and tingling sensation ).

HOW MANY PULSED LIGHT SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?

The number of sessions depends on the hair type and the area being treated. The darker the hair, the faster it will be destroyed. In general, allow 4-5 sessions for areas such as the underarms or bikini line, and for example 6-8 for the face. Avoid having a session 2 to 3 weeks before sun exposure  and wait at least 1 month after coming back from the sun.

Sessions are spaced about 1 month apart.

IS PULSED LIGHT EFFECTIVE?

Be warned! As a rule, once you try pulsed light at Sama Wellness, you will never go back! Indeed, the results of permanent hair removal at Sama Wellness are visible from the very first session! Hair growth is generally reduced by 20% with each session.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

Not permanent, but very long-lasting. That is, almost permanent on the underarms and bikini line, and very long-lasting on other areas.

It should nevertheless be remembered that technologies evolve and that, while permanent hair removal centres are springing up everywhere, their effectiveness varies depending on the settings and quality of the machine. Unfortunately, black skin cannot benefit from this technology because of the high amount of melanin in the skin. However, most other permanent hair removal centres in Brussels, lacking latest-generation equipment, cannot use pulsed light on mixed-race skin either,at Sama Wellness WE CAN!!!

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Besides black skin, permanent IPL hair removal is strictly contraindicated for pregnant women, children, people with diabetes, a blood disorder or cancer, as well as for people taking anticoagulants, antibiotics or other photosensitising medication.

TRUE OR FALSE: PULSED LIGHT HAIR REMOVAL

• Pulsed light hair removal sessions are cheaper than laser.

TRUE: Since it is performed in beauty centres with shorter and therefore more cost-effective sessions, pulsed light hair removal is considerably cheaper than laser

• Light-based hair removal works on white hair.

FALSE: The absence of melanin prevents heat transfer, making this technique ineffective on white hair.

• Pulsed light hair removal is better suited to blond hair and fine down than laser.

TRUE: A laser can only deliver a single wavelength, unlike pulsed light, which emits a multitude of wavelengths and increases the chances of adapting to as many hair colours.
